Barn door hardware is essentially large sliding barn doors that are slightly expensive but elegant looking. The hardware comprises of metal tracks and wheels and bolts required for it to be wall-mounted. An ordinary sliding track can be extremely costly - almost $800 for high-end quality. The doors are not included in this costing and must be purchased locally and later customized to fit your preferences. Some are fitted with sliding mirrors which can be used in bathrooms for extra privacy. The greatest advantage, of course, is that with it, you need not reserve extra space that you would normally have to keep for an ordinary door to be opened. These doors do not slide into walls; rather these add to the overall decor of any room.
Door locks come in a huge variety and this variety gets even greater if you look at how they have evolved through time. The basic principle of most locks is a bolt of some sort. This bolt need only be some sort of bar, cylinder, lug, or other contrivance that extends from the swinging part of the door into some kind of receiving area on the frame. This simply stops the door from swinging open.
Door hardware includes all the hardware necessary to make your door function. This includes the lock, door knobs or handles and hinges. Door hardware adds to the beauty of your home and makes a statement about you. In a new home the builders designer will probably ask you to select the style and finish of your door hardware first. Why? Other hardware selections (faucets, shower fixtures, light fixtures) will be coordinated with the door hardware. Typically, if you choose oil rubbed bronze window latches you will also have oil rubbed bronze door hinges, locks and door knobs or handles. The proper selection of hardware will add cohesiveness to the design of the home.
Bypass hardware allows you to have three different doors in the same space, yet save space. Since the hardware is a dark-brown color, they would go well with our red barn door. You can use this combo in applications where there is a large space that does not lend itself well to traditional doors or frames. One reason you may want to use this barn door hardware combo is that you may have a large space that could use up to three doors at one time, but you do not want to have a bulky door entrance or a lot of walls. This is the perfect solution-just attach the hardware on the ceiling and doors, and you are done!
